Mississippi mansion lights red for American Heart Month

Mississippi’s governor and First Lady Elee Reeves will light the Governor’s Mansion red beginning tonight and continuing through Feb. 24 to mark American Heart Month, the governor said in a Facebook post.

American Heart Month is observed each February to raise awareness about heart disease and promote prevention. Health organizations encourage people to learn their risk factors, adopt healthier diets, increase physical activity and seek regular medical care to manage conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Lighting public buildings and landmarks in red is a common awareness tactic used by government offices and advocacy groups to draw public attention to health observances. The governor’s announcement did not include additional details about events or related state programs.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
