Mississippi issues Silver Alert for missing Jackson man

JACKSON, Mississippi — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has issued a Silver Alert for a missing Jackson man believed to be at risk, the agency said Monday.

Authorities said 65-year-old Larry Layton was last seen Sunday, March 1, at about 1 a.m. in the 3700 block of Capitol Street in Hinds County. Officials said he was walking in an unknown direction and it is not known what he was wearing when last seen.

Layton is described as 6-foot-1 and about 230 pounds, with black, balding hair and brown eyes, the MBI said. Family members reported that Layton suffers from a medical condition that may impair his judgment, the agency said.

Silver Alerts are public-notification systems used by law enforcement to help locate missing adults who are believed to be in danger because of age, cognitive impairment or other medical conditions. Authorities asked anyone who sees Layton or has information about his whereabouts to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or call 911.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
