Mississippi DPS urges drivers to buckle up, avoid phone use
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety urged motorists to make safe choices behind the wheel in a Facebook post titled “Safety Tip Tuesday.” The department listed four simple actions: buckle up, put the phone down, slow down and move over.
The Department of Public Safety is the state agency responsible for highway safety, law enforcement on state roads, and driver licensing. It regularly shares safety reminders and enforcement information to reduce crashes and protect motorists, first responders and roadside workers.
The guidance reflects widely accepted road safety practices. Wearing a seat belt is a primary defense in a crash, distracted driving from phone use increases the risk of collisions, and slowing or changing lanes can reduce danger when vehicles are stopped on the roadside. Officials encourage drivers to apply these measures on every trip.
These reminders aim to lower injuries and fatalities on Mississippi roads and to protect emergency personnel working at crash scenes. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
