Mississippi DOT urges motorists to drive safely

The Mississippi Department of Transportation urged motorists on its Facebook page to “please drive safe” if they must travel, reminding residents to exercise caution on the state’s roadways.

MDOT, which oversees the maintenance and safety of Mississippi’s highways and bridges, frequently uses social media to share travel advisories and safety reminders with the public. The agency posts updates to help motorists plan trips and to reduce risk during periods of heavy travel or changing road conditions.

Traffic safety messaging from transportation departments aims to lower crashes and protect both drivers and roadway workers. Officials and safety advocates typically emphasize that simple precautions can reduce the likelihood of collisions and injuries.

Traffic safety experts generally advise motorists to buckle seat belts, avoid distractions, obey speed limits and adjust driving for road and weather conditions. Departments of transportation across the country often amplify these messages ahead of holidays and adverse conditions to reach as many drivers as possible.
