Mississippi Department of Public Safety hosts crime lab Career Day for students
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said in a Facebook post that Career Day at its crime lab gave students a behind-the-scenes look at careers in forensic science and public safety.
“From evidence to answers,” the department wrote in the post, describing the event as an opportunity for students to learn about the work performed in a crime laboratory. The post did not provide further details about the number of participants or specific demonstrations.
State crime laboratories typically analyze physical evidence such as DNA, fingerprints, toxicology samples and ballistics to support criminal investigations and court proceedings. Career days and outreach events aim to introduce young people to scientific and technical career paths, explain the role of forensic science in public safety and encourage interest in fields where trained professionals are in demand.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety oversees a range of law enforcement and public safety functions in the state, and its outreach is part of broader efforts to build a future workforce and increase public understanding of forensic work.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
