MEMA tells residents to report damage, reserves generators for critical services
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency officials urged residents to report storm damage to their county emergency management directors or use MEMA’s online damage-reporting form at msema.org/report-damage, the agency said Thursday.
MEMA said it remains focused on the damage-reporting phase and meeting immediate needs after severe winter weather affected the state over the weekend. Residents with questions about local resources or problems using the online tool should contact their county EMA director using the contact list at msema.org/get-assistance/county-emergency-management-contacts, the agency said.
MEMA said it is securing generators to support essential county operations only, including hospitals, water treatment plants and emergency services, and that the generators are not available for individual or residential use. The agency said prioritizing critical infrastructure helps ensure life-saving services remain operational for everyone.
MEMA posted a list of shelters and safe rooms at msema.org/get-assistance/disaster-resources/shelters-and-safe-rooms and said shelters are managed locally. The agency listed an Adams County safe room opening Jan. 24, 2026, at 6 p.m. at 323 Liberty Road in Natchez, Miss., and said service animals and small pets in kennels are allowed. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
