MEMA says FEMA not providing reimbursement for generators

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said Friday that reports claiming MEMA or the Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse residents for generator purchases are false.

MEMA said in a post on its official Facebook page that MEMA/FEMA are not providing reimbursement for generators and asked residents not to share posts that say otherwise. The agency directed people to its official website for the most accurate and up-to-date information: https://www.msema.org/get-assistance/disaster-resources/disasters/january-2026-winter-weather.

MEMA is the state agency responsible for coordinating emergency response in Mississippi. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, administers federal disaster assistance after events that meet federal criteria, but not all posted claims about available reimbursements are accurate.

Officials say misinformation about disaster assistance can lead people to make financial decisions based on incorrect expectations. MEMA encouraged residents to contact the agency directly or use its website for confirmed guidance and to “send a message to learn more.” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
