MEMA, National Guard deliver supplies to Alcorn County after winter storm
MEMA said in a Facebook post that it is working with the Mississippi National Guard to deliver essential supplies to counties impacted by a winter storm. Video posted by the agency shows water, MREs (meals ready to eat), cots and blankets being loaded and transported by two Chinook helicopters to Alcorn County on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2026.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency coordinates state response to disasters and works with the National Guard to move personnel and equipment when local resources are overwhelmed. The National Guard provides airlift and logistics support during emergencies, including heavy-lift helicopter transport, to reach communities in need.
Officials use helicopter shipments to speed delivery of critical supplies when road travel is slowed or blocked by winter weather. Delivering water, ready-to-eat meals and shelter items helps sustain residents and first responders while crews work to restore normal services.
Details on the broader extent of damage or additional missions were not provided in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
