MDOT urges motorists to avoid roads, use extreme caution
The Mississippi Department of Transportation urged motorists to stay off the roads and to use extreme caution if travel is unavoidable, according to a post on the agency’s Facebook page.
MDOT said drivers should carry emergency supplies in their vehicles in case they become stranded or slide off the road and advised travelers to monitor road conditions through the MDOT Traffic app or at MDOTtraffic.com.
MDOT is the state agency responsible for planning, building and maintaining Mississippi’s highways and for providing traffic and traveler information to the public. The agency frequently issues travel advisories and updates through apps, its website and social media when conditions pose risks to motorists.
Staying off roads during hazardous conditions can reduce crashes and limit demands on emergency responders, officials say. Motorists who must travel are urged to follow MDOT updates and exercise caution. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
