MDOT closes I-55, I-22 lanes for ice removal
The Mississippi Department of Transportation said the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 from Grenada (Exit 206) to Senatobia (Exit 265) and the westbound lanes of Interstate 22 from New Albany (Exit 61) to Holly Springs (Exit 30) are closed until further notice to allow crews access for ice removal.
MDOT said the closures are in effect immediately and that the public should completely avoid I-55 and I-22 in those areas. The agency said the action will give crews safe access to treat and remove ice from the roadway.
I-55 and I-22 are major travel corridors in northern Mississippi that carry both commuter and commercial traffic. Closures on those routes can cause significant delays and force drivers to seek alternate routes, officials said.
Motorists are urged to consult the free MDOT Traffic app, available in the App Store and on Google Play, or MDOTtraffic.com for live road conditions and updates. Travelers should expect detours and plan extra time if travel is unavoidable.
