Lt. Stewart reports icy roads on MS 322 at Coahoma-Quittman county line

Lt. Stewart reported in a Facebook video that significant ice and snow remain on MS 322 at the Coahoma/Quittman County line east of Clarksdale and that temperatures are expected to drop below freezing again tonight. He told motorists to drive safe.

Icy roadways can create hazardous driving conditions, increasing the risk of crashes and making travel slow or difficult. Local law enforcement and transportation officials commonly issue advisories during winter weather to encourage caution and reduce incidents on treated and untreated surfaces.

Clarksdale is in northwestern Mississippi, and the surrounding counties have seen occasional winter storms that leave ice and snow lingering on rural highways. Motorists traveling in the area should be prepared for slick spots, especially on bridges and shaded stretches of road.

Officials generally advise drivers to reduce speed, increase following distances and avoid unnecessary travel when temperatures are near or below freezing. Lt. Stewart’s video serves as a reminder for residents in the area to take precautions. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
