Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to avoid distracted driving in April

Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi is urging drivers to avoid distractions during April, which it identified as Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

The office said taking your eyes off the road “even for a few seconds” can put your life and others at risk and warned that a glance at a phone can have lifelong consequences.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office encouraged drivers to put phones away before driving, use hands-free options if necessary and stay alert and focused at all times. The post added, “No text, call, or notification is worth it.”

Distracted driving is a major public safety concern and awareness campaigns in April aim to reduce crashes and injuries by reminding motorists of simple steps to stay safe. Law enforcement agencies often highlight these reminders to prompt safer behavior behind the wheel.

Lowndes County officials asked residents to work together to keep roads safe. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
