Lowndes County sheriff urges 9 p.m. safety routine
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday urged residents to adopt a simple nightly safety check as part of a #9PMRoutine to help prevent crime. The post recommends that residents secure all doors and windows, remove valuables from vehicles, activate exterior and porch lighting and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said establishing a consistent nighttime routine plays an important role in crime prevention and community safety and thanked residents for their continued partnership in keeping Lowndes County safe.
The sheriff’s office is the primary law enforcement agency serving the county and frequently shares safety tips to reduce opportunistic thefts and burglaries. Routine checks such as locking doors, removing visible valuables from vehicles and lighting exterior areas are widely recommended crime-prevention practices used by police departments across the country.
Residents who see suspicious activity are asked to contact the sheriff’s office. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
