Lowndes County seeks suspect in Greentree Apartments shooting

The Lowndes County Sheriffs Office is asking the public to help locate 30-year-old Devin Jermal Rice, who is wanted on three counts of hurling a missile after deputies responded to shots fired Thursday at 500 Greentree Drive at the Greentree Apartments, the office said.

Deputies who arrived on scene observed three vehicles that had sustained bullet hole damage, the sheriffs office said in a Facebook post. Witness statements and security footage, along with a witness who saw the shooting, show a black man wearing a red hoodie at the scene, and Rice was later identified as the suspect.

Authorities allege Rice fired in the parking lot, striking several vehicles, endangering others and causing property damage. Investigators have obtained warrants for his arrest and said efforts are ongoing to locate him.

The sheriffs office noted that under Mississippi law it is illegal to willfully shoot a firearm or hurl missiles such as stones, bricks or other dangerous objects at vehicles, transportation facilities or traffic control devices, and that violations can result in significant fines and possible imprisonment. Anyone with information about Rices whereabouts is asked to contact the Lowndes County Sheriffs Office or Golden Triangle Crimestoppers, or to submit an anonymous tip using the T3Tips App.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
