Lee County sheriff praises Shannon Middle students after DARE graduation
Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said in a Facebook post by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office that he is proud of sixth-graders at Shannon Middle School who graduated from the DARE program last week.
“We are so proud of the sixth graders at Shannon Middle School for their recent graduation from the DARE Program last week!” Johnson wrote. He thanked Mr. Woods, the school’s principal, and Mr. Parrett, a classroom teacher, for allowing law enforcement personnel to spend time with the students each week.
Johnson said the students learned lessons about making good decisions, building positive friendships, practicing effective listening skills, resisting negative peer pressure, identifying trusted help networks and preventing bullying. He said the tools gained through the program should help students grow into strong, responsible leaders inside and outside the classroom.
DARE, which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is a program often delivered in schools by law enforcement officers to teach students decision-making and resistance skills. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
