Warming shelters provide temporary refuge for people without adequate heat during cold weather and are typically operated by local governments or nonprofit organizations to protect residents from hypothermia and other cold-related risks. Such shelters often offer seating, restrooms and a place to warm up for people who are homeless, traveling or experiencing heating outages.

Local emergency officials are coordinating openings to help residents during adverse conditions and are encouraging anyone in need to use the available resources. For transportation assistance to the Lafayette County shelter, call the sheriff’s office at 662-234-8789. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
