Lafayette County opens MRE, water distribution sites Jan. 31

A Lafayette County Facebook post dated Jan. 31 says meals ready-to-eat and bottled water will be distributed from noon to 4 p.m. while supplies last at multiple sites in the county and the City of Oxford.

The post lists the following distribution locations in Lafayette County: Harmontown SO Substation, 12 County Road 517; Lafayette High School, 160 Commodore Drive; Lafayette County Fire Station 3, 22 County Road 369; and Oasis Church, 861 Highway 6 West.

City of Oxford sites listed in the post include City Hall, CB Webb and Wayne Johnson Thacker at Garden Terrace. The post says distribution is limited to up to three days’ worth per person to help ensure supplies reach as many residents as possible and that the sites are being staffed by the National Guard.

The post asks residents to be patient and kind as supplies are limited and distribution will continue until supplies run out. MREs, or meals ready-to-eat, are self-contained field rations often used in emergency response. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
