JPD investigates fatal hit-and-run on Chastain Drive
JPD is investigating a hit-and-run crash in the 4800 block of Chastain Drive that left one person dead and another injured, the department said Thursday. The call was dispatched to Precinct 4 officers at 11:11, according to JPD.
JPD said two people riding a bicycle were struck by a vehicle; a female rider was found deceased at the scene and a male rider was transported by AMR to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. The vehicle description is unknown, JPD said.
The department said the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the crash and to identify and locate the vehicle involved, JPD said.
Hit-and-run crashes involving bicycles are a serious public safety concern and typically prompt inquiries into roadway safety and driver responsibility. JPD did not release further details. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
