Jackson police support Read Across America Week, Career Day
The Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers were out in full force for Read Across America Week and Career Day.
Read Across America Week is a national literacy initiative led by the National Education Association that promotes reading among children and is widely observed by schools and community groups. Many districts use the observance to highlight the importance of reading and to encourage students to develop lifelong literacy habits.
Career Day events bring local professionals into schools so students can learn about different jobs and career paths. Police departments commonly participate in such events to explain public safety careers and to broaden students’ awareness of community roles.
Participation by law enforcement in school events is a common element of community policing strategies designed to build trust, support education and give young people positive interactions with public servants. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
