Jackson police honor Detective Eric T. Smith on End of Watch anniversary
The Jackson Police Department on Friday honored the life and sacrifice of Detective Eric T. Smith, Badge 529, on the anniversary of his End of Watch, April 4, 2013, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department said Smith “served with courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the citizens of Jackson.” The post called his dedication “the very best of this profession” and said his sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the risks officers face daily.
Jackson police said Smith’s “legacy remains woven into the fabric of this department,” and that “his service continues to inspire, and his memory lives on in the work carried forward by those who follow in his footsteps.” The post described him as “A protector. A brother. A hero.”
End of Watch is the term law enforcement agencies use to mark the date an officer dies in the line of duty. Departments often observe anniversaries to remember fallen officers and to recognize the ongoing dangers of police work.
The Jackson Police Department said it will always remember Detective Smith for both his service and the man he was.
