Jackson Police Department conducts use-of-force, de-escalation training

The Jackson Police Department is conducting in-service training on “Use of Force and De-Escalation” at the JPD Training Academy, the department said in a Facebook post. The department said the training is mandatory for all sworn personnel in the Patrol Services Bureau and the Investigative Services Bureau.

The post identified the course instructor as Corporal Deon Taylor, a 34-year veteran who has served as a JPD training instructor for 12 years and also serves in other department roles, the post said.

Use-of-force and de-escalation training generally focuses on tactics and decision-making designed to manage confrontations while minimizing harm to officers and the public. Police agencies use in-service programs to reinforce policy, refresh skills and update personnel on best practices.

The Jackson Police Department is the municipal law enforcement agency responsible for public safety within its jurisdiction and routinely conducts training to maintain operational standards. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
