Jackson police chief meets with Hinds County youth court to expand partnership

Chief Rashall Brackney of the Jackson Police Department met with Hinds County Youth Court Judge Carlyn Hicks and her team at the Hinds County Youth Detention Center this morning, the department said.

The department posted photos of the meeting on its Facebook page and said it anticipates furthering the partnership with the Hinds County Youth Court to better serve communities and offer alternatives to youth violence.

Hinds County Youth Court handles juvenile cases and works with local agencies to address delinquent behavior, with an emphasis on rehabilitation and keeping young people out of the adult criminal justice system. The Hinds County Youth Detention Center houses juveniles who are awaiting court action or placed by the court pending services.

Law enforcement and juvenile justice partnerships are often used to coordinate prevention, intervention and diversion strategies intended to reduce youth involvement in violence and repeat offending. Local officials said the meeting is part of ongoing efforts to improve coordination among agencies that serve young residents.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
