Jackson officials brief public on winter storm plan
Jackson police said city, county and nonprofit partners briefed residents Wednesday on an emergency management plan ahead of a winter storm predicted to hit the area this weekend.
The Facebook post from the Jackson Police Department said the City of Jackson, Hinds County, Capitol Police, Stewpot, Shower Power, Central Mississippi COC, Jackson Public School and utility officials participated in the briefing.
Officials urged residents to limit travel, take weather warnings seriously, check on seniors and vulnerable neighbors and make plans now for power, heat and safe shelter. The department directed people to its Facebook page for a list of phone numbers and advised anyone having trouble contacting the police to call 601-960-1234.
Winter storms can cause power outages and hazardous road conditions, officials noted in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
