Jackson County opens cold weather warming station
Jackson County Emergency Operations Center said in a Facebook post that a cold weather warming station is now available at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, 2902 Shortcut Road in Pascagoula.
The facility will be open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Ocean Springs residents who need assistance or transportation to the shelter are asked to contact the Ocean Springs Police Department at 228-875-2211. Transportation will be provided to anyone who needs it, the post said.
The Jackson County Emergency Operations Center coordinates countywide responses to emergencies, including severe weather, and warming stations are commonly used to protect residents during periods of dangerously cold temperatures. Such facilities offer temporary shelter for people without adequate heating, older adults, people with medical vulnerabilities and others at risk in extreme cold.
Officials asked residents to share the information with anyone who may be affected by the cold weather. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
