Jackson County deputy dies responding to disturbance

A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy died early Wednesday after being shot while responding to a disturbance call at an apartment complex in St. Martin, authorities said.

Deputy Michael Jimerson was transported to Ocean Springs Hospital following the shooting and later died of his injuries, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies were dispatched at approximately 11:00 p.m. on April 1 to a reported disturbance at the Reserve Apartments in St. Martin.

The sheriff’s office said an exchange of gunfire occurred involving a female individual, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the ongoing investigation and has released no further details or timeline for completion.

Jimerson joined the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve deputy in 2010 and was hired full time in 2014. He served in the Patrol Division. Colleagues remembered him Wednesday night as a trusted friend, and the sheriff’s office asked for prayers for his family, friends and fellow officers as they grieve. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
