Hinds County sheriff recognizes captain after completing crisis intervention training

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office says Captain Eric Paymon attended and successfully completed Crisis Intervention Team training alongside law enforcement professionals from agencies across the region, the department said in a post on its Facebook page.

The sheriff’s office said the training is intended to strengthen officers’ ability to respond safely, effectively and compassionately to individuals experiencing mental health crises. Crisis Intervention Team programs generally teach officers to recognize signs of mental illness, use de‑escalation techniques and connect people to appropriate behavioral health services.

The post also noted an ongoing partnership with Hinds Behavioral Health Services, calling the collaboration essential to improving outcomes, enhancing officer preparedness and supporting community well‑being. The department thanked its partners for their work to advance mental health response in Hinds County.

This recognition highlights local efforts to expand law enforcement training in mental health response and to build coordination between public safety and behavioral health providers. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
