Hattiesburg man charged in drug trafficking probe

A yearlong joint investigation by the Hattiesburg Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration culminated in the arrest of a Hattiesburg man early Friday, the agencies said.

At approximately 6 a.m. Jan. 23, 2026, investigators conducted a coordinated enforcement operation in the 600 block of Buschman Street and arrested David Walls, 45, of Hattiesburg, on a charge of trafficking a controlled substance, the Hattiesburg Police Department and the DEA said.

Authorities seized 90 grams of crack cocaine, eight firearms, three vehicles and more than $130,000 in U.S. currency during the investigation, the agencies said. Walls was taken into custody without incident.

Additional charges are pending and the investigation remains ongoing, officials said. Further arrests or charges may follow as investigators continue their work.

The DEA is the federal agency responsible for enforcing controlled substances laws; state and federal trafficking charges are felonies and can carry substantial prison terms. Hattiesburg is a city in southern Mississippi. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
