Hatchett sentenced to 25 years for 2023 murder
TUPELO, Miss. — Jaedin Jacques Hatchett pleaded guilty Feb. 12 to second-degree murder in the March 5, 2023, killing of Montavious Jemar Clifton and was sentenced to 25 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the district attorney’s office said.
Circuit Court Judge John R. White handed down the sentence, the press release from Jason D. Herring, District Attorney for the First Circuit Court District, said Feb. 17. Hatchett will not be eligible for parole or early release and is required to serve the full 25 years, the release said.
An additional 15 years of the sentence were suspended. Upon release from prison, Hatchett must complete five years of post-release supervision, the statement said.
The Tupelo Police Department investigated the case, and Sadie Gardner, assistant district attorney, prosecuted it on behalf of the state, the release said. The plea and sentence conclude the criminal case stemming from the March 2023 death.
