Harrison County swaps inmate phone system, lowers call costs

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that it will switch phone systems for inmate calls beginning March 18, and that City Telecoin will no longer be operational.

The office said the new program will reduce costs for calls, videos and messages. Family members and others who place or receive calls from inmates are asked to register a new account by calling 1-800-943-2189 or by visiting www.ncic.com.

The sheriff’s office, which operates the county jail and oversees inmate communications, did not provide additional details in the post about contract terms or transitional support. Changes to phone vendors can affect how quickly people receive information about incarcerated relatives and the fees they pay for contact.

Lowering communication costs can ease the financial burden on families and improve access to inmates, officials said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
