Harrison County seeks help after vandals strip copper from Saucier ball-field lights

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help identify the person or persons who cut and stripped copper wire from junction boxes on power poles that supply field lights at the Saucier Ball Fields on Saucier Lizana Road in Saucier.

Investigators said the incident occurred during the early morning hours of Feb. 2, 2026. They said vandals damaged 10 light poles, leaving 39 lights across three of the six fields inoperable. Estimated damages total about $30,000.

Officials said the damage will prevent teams from practicing after dark when the baseball season begins Feb. 16. Investigators urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers by downloading the P3 Tips app or by calling TIPS. To qualify for a reward, tips must be submitted directly through Crime Stoppers.

Copper theft and similar vandalism can disrupt community recreational programs and require costly repairs. Crime Stoppers operates community tip lines that often work with local law enforcement to gather information and offer rewards for qualifying tips.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
