Gulfport man arrested on aggravated DUI after fatal Highway 49 crash

Gulfport, Mississippi — The Gulfport Police Department arrested 39-year-old Kymanni King of Gulfport on Jan. 27, 2026, charging him with aggravated DUI resulting in death and DUI causing serious bodily injury to a child, the department said in a news release posted to Facebook.

Officers responded to a crash with injuries on Highway 49 near 34th Street at about 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 26, where they found an adult woman dead inside a vehicle and a small child suffering serious injuries, the release said. The child was airlifted to an out-of-state hospital for treatment.

Investigators determined King crossed the median and was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 49 when his vehicle struck the other vehicle head-on, the department said. Officers obtained a breath sample from King at the scene that tested positive for alcohol.

King was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and is being held in lieu of a $750,000 bond set by Judge Fountain, according to the release. The Gulfport Police Department said the investigation is ongoing. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
