Fire displaces eight families on West Capitol Street in Jackson

JACKSON — A fire damaged multiple units Sunday morning at the Magnolia Apartments on West Capitol Street, displacing eight families, the Jackson Fire Department said.

Firefighters were dispatched at 8:49 a.m. to 1315 W. Capitol St. for a reported structure fire and found smoke and flames on arrival, officials said. Crews extinguished the blaze, and a fire investigator was called to the scene.

Investigators later classified the cause of the fire as undetermined, the fire department said, and the probe remains ongoing. Fire investigators typically examine the scene, interview witnesses and review evidence to determine an origin and cause, officials said.

The fire damaged eight apartment units, and the American Red Cross is assisting those affected. No injuries were reported.
