Facebook post warns motorists of icy roads after Mississippi freeze
A Facebook post warned motorists in parts of Mississippi to exercise caution on roads this morning after “brutally low” temperatures overnight, saying conditions are likely worse than they were the previous night.
The post said a few hours of sunlight and temperatures above freezing could begin a thaw and help utility linemen — called “HEROES” in the message — restore power to as many customers as possible.
The message expressed gratitude to first responders, law enforcement and emergency management personnel working around the clock to respond to the situation.
Freezing temperatures can create hazardous driving conditions, including black ice and slick bridges and overpasses, increasing the risk of crashes. Motorists should reduce speed, allow extra travel time and avoid unnecessary trips until conditions improve, officials and safety specialists commonly advise.
This is a developing situation. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
