Emergency crews work to clear stranded commercial vehicles on Mississippi interstates
Emergency crews worked through the night and continued efforts Thursday to clear major interstates of stranded commercial vehicles and assist motorists, a Facebook post said.
The post warned that highways and interstates remained dangerous Thursday morning after an overnight re-freeze, and advised drivers to avoid travel if possible.
Freezing conditions and overnight re-freeze can create slick surfaces that trap large vehicles and produce hazardous travel conditions for passenger vehicles and emergency responders. Stranded commercial vehicles can block lanes, complicate traffic flow and slow emergency operations, officials and transportation experts say in general.
The Facebook post urged residents to “pray for the first responders” and praised those crews for “going above and beyond for their fellow man,” saying they continued to work to clear roadways and assist motorists. Drivers were reminded to exercise caution, delay travel and follow guidance from local authorities.
