Emergency agency urges residents to report winter weather damage
An emergency management agency is asking residents who experienced damage during recent winter weather to report it using a Self-Report Damage Tool, the agency said in a Facebook video post.
The agency noted that Individual Assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency is not currently available. Officials said the number of damage reports the agency receives is critical because more reports can help strengthen the case for FEMA to provide Individual Assistance.
The agency urged residents to take a few minutes to complete the online form at https://www.msema.org/report-damage and said a short video accompanying the post contains step-by-step instructions on how to complete the application. Officials said every report matters for documenting the scope of impacts to the community.
FEMA Individual Assistance generally provides direct aid to people affected by disasters, including help with temporary housing and disaster-related expenses, when it is granted. The agency encouraged affected residents to report damage even while federal assistance is not available. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
