Drivers told to turn around on I-55 north of Batesville, I-22 north of Lake Center
A social media post said motorists on Interstate 55 north of Batesville and Interstate 22 north of Lake Center should turn around immediately as road crews work to remove stranded vehicles and roadways are in “extremely dangerous condition.”
The post warned that other state highways and county roads in North Mississippi may present similar hazards and urged people to travel only when necessary and to use extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.
Stranded vehicles can block lanes, increase the risk of collisions and slow emergency and recovery efforts. Crews on scene typically work to clear vehicles and debris before reopening lanes to ensure safe travel, though that process can take time depending on conditions.
Interstate 55 and Interstate 22 are major corridors for local and commercial traffic in North Mississippi; disruptions on those routes can produce cascading delays and affect regional travel.
Motorists should monitor official traffic alerts and local news for updates. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
