Dispatch urges public to use live feeds amid winter road conditions
Dispatch said it is receiving a very high volume of calls about road conditions as winter weather continues to affect the area and urged residents to use online resources for real-time updates rather than calling nonemergency lines.
In a social media post, Dispatch pointed residents to MDOT traffic cameras for live road conditions and a live weather update stream on YouTube. The post said monitoring those feeds and the agency’s social media updates helps keep phone lines open for emergencies.
Dispatch said callers should reserve 911 and emergency lines for life-threatening situations and incidents that require immediate assistance. The agency also advised motorists to use extreme caution if travel is necessary and to check live conditions before heading out.
State and local transportation agencies typically operate traffic camera networks and publish travel advisories during winter storms to help drivers plan. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
