Detectives administer Narcan, revive suspect after fentanyl arrest
On Jan. 16, 2026, three Jackson police detectives administered naloxone and revived a person who became unresponsive after being arrested on a fentanyl possession charge, the Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Detective Armani Lewis had transported the subject to police headquarters and began preparing booking paperwork when Detective Erik Monroe noticed the person slump forward and fail to respond to verbal commands and physical contact, the department said. Monroe performed sternum rubs and observed the subject turning blue, prompting officers to place the person on the floor and continue emergency measures.
Detective Quadarius Draine retrieved a dose of Narcan while Lewis called American Medical Response. The post said officers administered the naloxone dose, the subject began to respond, and AMR arrived to give additional naloxone and stabilize the person before transporting them to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for further treatment.
The department praised the detectives for quick, coordinated action and called their response lifesaving. Naloxone, sold under the brand name Narcan, is an opioid antidote commonly used to reverse overdoses; fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid linked to many recent overdose deaths. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
