Deputy finds dachshund on Busick Wells Road; owner located

A female dachshund found walking along Busick Wells Road in Brandon was reunited with her owner after a Rankin County deputy picked her up to keep her from being struck, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said a deputy observed the dog walking in the middle of the road and placed her in the patrol car for safety. The office described the dog as female with no name or age on file, and said she repeatedly vocalized “bark, bark, bark.”

The sheriff’s office initially asked the public for help locating the dog’s family and provided a contact number, 601-825-1480, for anyone who knew the owner. The office posted an update saying the dog has been returned to her owner and thanked those who shared the appeal.
