Deputies clear St. Martin North Elementary after phone threat

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded March 6 to St. Martin North Elementary after receiving a phone call that threatened the school just before students were dismissed, the office said in a March 9 press release.

Deputies secured the building, determined there was no danger and allowed students to be dismissed once an all-clear was given, the release said.

Investigators later traced the call to two juvenile residents of the St. Martin community, the sheriff’s office said. Because the alleged offenders are juveniles, the office said they will be complained to the Jackson County Youth Court.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency serving the county and routinely responds to reports of threats to schools. Securing facilities, investigating the source of threats and coordinating with school officials are standard procedures intended to protect students and staff and limit disruption to school operations.

The press release did not provide additional details about the juveniles or a possible motive. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
