Controlled burn produces visible smoke near County Road 423
A large controlled burn is underway in the 100 block of County Road 423, and smoke is visible from Highway 6 East, according to a community Facebook post. The post warned residents that smoke is likely to be seen in the area for the rest of the day.
Controlled burns are deliberate fires set to reduce vegetation, lower wildfire risk and maintain certain ecosystems. They are commonly planned and overseen by land managers and fire officials to limit the chance of unintentional spread.
Smoke from prescribed burns can reduce visibility on nearby roadways and affect air quality. Motorists driving on Highway 6 East and in surrounding areas may encounter reduced visibility and should use caution. People with respiratory conditions may want to limit prolonged outdoor exposure until smoke dissipates.
Details about the agency conducting the burn and the size of the burn were not provided in the Facebook post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
