Community thanks Mississippi National Guard after Ice Storm Fern

A Facebook post from a local account thanked the Mississippi National Guard for its assistance during a period of “extreme need” and credited the force with helping maintain order and supporting recovery efforts after Ice Storm Fern, the post said.

The post said the guard has been “doing all they can to help our efforts as we try to maintain order and return to normalcy.” It also expressed gratitude to Russell and Julie Smith for opening their home to members of the National Guard and for their hospitality, calling the gesture an important example of community support.

The Mississippi National Guard frequently assists state and local authorities during severe weather and other emergencies by providing logistical support, manpower and coordination. Ice storms can cause dangerous road conditions, widespread power outages and downed trees, making such assistance critical to public safety and recovery.

The post said more updates will follow. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
