Commissioner Gipson leads food delivery to Lafayette County warming shelter

Commissioner Andy Gipson is leading an effort to deliver a truckload of food to a warming shelter in Lafayette County, according to a Facebook post. The post said many have asked how they can help and noted that volunteers across Mississippi are doing “incredible work.”

The Facebook post did not provide further details such as the amount of food, the exact delivery time or the name of the shelter. Gipson was identified only as “Commissioner” in the post; it did not specify his office or provide additional comment.

Warming shelters offer temporary refuge and meals to residents during severe cold or other emergencies, and local officials and volunteers often coordinate donations and staffing. Such community-led deliveries can supplement relief efforts by providing immediate supplies to people who need shelter and food.

People who want to help typically contact local emergency management offices, county officials or recognized community organizations to learn how to volunteer or donate. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
