Columbus-Lowndes humane society seeks dog food donations

COLUMBUS — The Columbus-Lowndes Humane Society is asking the public for help after taking in a large number of dogs and puppies over the past week, the shelter said Friday.

Officials said the shelter has been overwhelmed by the recent influx of animals and is seeking donations of dog food to help meet demand. They said even small bags of food can make a difference as staff and volunteers work to care for the animals now in its custody.

Humane societies and animal shelters provide temporary care for lost, abandoned and surrendered animals and often rely on donations of food, supplies and volunteer time to operate. A sudden rise in intake can strain space, staffing and budgets, making community support important to maintain proper nutrition and health for animals awaiting adoption.

Officials thanked the community for its continued support and encouraged residents to contact the shelter for information on how to donate. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
