Cold-Weather Shelters Open in Harrison County

Harrison County announced that cold-weather shelters will open Monday, March 16, in response to anticipated cold weather conditions.

County officials said the warming centers are intended to provide temporary refuge for residents without heat and for people experiencing homelessness or other risks during the cold snap.

Warming centers are typically made available by local governments, social service agencies and community organizations to reduce exposure to dangerous temperatures. Such facilities generally offer a warm place to rest and access to basic services and referrals to longer-term assistance, although hours and amenities vary by location.

Officials urged residents who may need shelter or who are checking on vulnerable neighbors to consult Harrison County’s official website and social media channels or contact local emergency management for the latest information on locations and hours.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
