Coahoma County sheriff warns residents to avoid roads after ice, snow

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that road conditions have worsened since yesterday and urged residents to avoid travel unless it is an emergency.

In a post on its Facebook page, the office said additional ice and snow accumulation has made travel extremely hazardous and that even four-wheel-drive vehicles may have difficulty navigating roads. It strongly urged residents to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary for an emergency and to use extreme caution if they must travel.

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Coahoma County, Mississippi, and routinely issues public safety alerts during severe weather. Local law enforcement and emergency responders often send such warnings to reduce traffic accidents and allow crews to keep roads clear and respond to urgent calls.

Winter storms and icy conditions can quickly create dangerous travel situations, including crashes, stranded vehicles and delays for emergency services. Residents are advised to monitor local media and official social channels for updates and to prepare for possible service disruptions. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
