Citizens Police Academy tours East Precinct, studies firearm safety
Monday night members of the Citizens Police Academy toured the East Precinct and received instruction on firearm safety and handling from Captain Pressgrove and Officer Prewitt, the department said in a Facebook post.
The session covered weapon systems and when different weapons are utilized by the department in various situations, and included information on use of force and the force continuum, the post said.
Citizens Police Academy programs are offered by many law enforcement agencies to increase public understanding of police operations, boost transparency and build relationships between community members and officers. Participants typically receive briefings on patrol procedures, investigations and department policies, and sometimes ride alongs or hands-on demonstrations.
The department thanked Chick-fil-A Southaven for providing dinner for the participants. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
