Campus stays closed through Sunday as crews remove debris
The university will remain closed through Sunday, Feb. 8, except for first responders and essential workers, as crews continue debris removal and officials prepare to resume normal operations Monday, Feb. 9, Daniel Sanford said in a Facebook post. The closure includes campus offices.
Sanford, director of campus safety and chief of police, said the campus is open only to first responders, essential workers and individuals using the warming shelter, food, showers and campus housing. He urged people not to come to campus for nonessential reasons to protect public safety and support recovery work.
Debris removal involves hundreds of crew members and heavy equipment, Sanford said, and roadways and walkways must be kept clear for the work to proceed safely. Current road closures include Grove Loop and the Circle, and the South Campus Rail Trails remain closed. Officials warned additional closures could follow as removal continues.
Barricades and an increased presence of campus law enforcement and security are in place, Sanford wrote, and people should follow their directions. He said staying off campus for nonessential reasons and obeying posted closures will help crews finish the work and support a safe return to classes and normal operations. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
