Brandon police investigate possible domestic double shooting
BRANDON — Brandon police are investigating the deaths of two people found early Saturday inside a Towne Street residence in what investigators say may be a murder-suicide.
Officers responded at approximately 1:20 a.m. to the 300 block of Towne Street after a family member called police to report finding two people dead inside the home, Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said in a release.
The victims were identified as Janitra Evette Patrick, 41, and Jimmy Orlando Patrick, 40. Both died from gunshot wounds, according to a preliminary investigation, French said.
Investigators said the shooting appears to stem from a domestic issue and is being treated as a murder-suicide. Police said there is no evidence of an ongoing threat to the public. A murder-suicide generally refers to an incident in which one person kills another and then dies by suicide; investigators continue to piece together the sequence of events and any motive.
The investigation remains active, and authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
