Biloxi police introduce S.Q.U.A.W.K. wingmen on Facebook
The Biloxi Police Department posted on Facebook Friday introducing a new support unit it called Strategic Quarters Aerial Wingmen and Krime interceptors, or S.Q.U.A.W.K.
The post said the avian agents are trained for low-altitude surveillance, act as “strategic donut evidence collectors” and provide aerial, less-than-lethal “nutrient rich droppings.” It added that they “might just look like seagulls,” and included hashtags such as #biloxipd, #SquawkSquad and #AprilFools.
Biloxi Police Department serves the Gulf Coast city of Biloxi, Mississippi. Many law enforcement agencies use K-9 units and increasingly employ aerial technologies such as drones for surveillance and search operations; the Facebook post referenced traditional K-9s for comparison rather than announcing a conventional new tactical capability.
The department’s use of humor on social media underscores a broader trend of police agencies engaging communities online and using lighthearted posts to attract attention. The post included the #AprilFools hashtag, which suggests it was intended as a joke. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
